Mechanism of Action
HCG binds the luteinizing hormone / chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) on gonadal cells. In testicular Leydig cells this activates the Gs/adenylate-cyclase/cAMP pathway, stimulating the steroidogenic cascade and endogenous testosterone production; in ovarian tissue it supports luteal function.
By acting as a durable LH mimetic, HCG is a key research tool for studying the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and steroidogenesis.
